This woodcreeper is a common bird in the forest (Brownsberg and Raleighfalls for instance) and mangrove, but even in Peperpot it can be seen, searching for insects on tree trunks. The song of the buff-throated woodcreeper was recorded by Otte Ottema at Arapahu in the West of Suriname.
