Golden-collared woodpecker Pic de Cassin, Pica-pauzinho, Carpintero cebra

Photo of a (female) Golden-collared woodpecker, made by Carl Beel in the Brownsberg nature park in Suriname in December 2008. It is often seen high up in the canopy of the trees at Brownsberg, sometimes in company of other birds. It has a finely black-and white striped breast (just visible in the photo), yellow in its neck and dots on his wings. In Spanish its name is 'zebra woodpecker'. This is a recording of the Golden-collared Woodpecker, made by Otte Ottema at Bakhuis in May 2006. Below are photos of a pair of Golden-collared Woodpeckers made by Carl Beel at Overbridge in June 2010. The male has the golden collar and red on top of its head, the second one is a female with much less color.
