Photos by J.H. Ribot, Walsrode 1998 and below along the
Coesewijne river in Suriname, 2001. In between a beautiful
picture made by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane.
The white-tailed trogon is often seen in pairs, sitting near each
other on a tree. They let you come very close, while they will
turn their heads to follow your movements. Now and then they will
fly a short distance to catch an insect and then return. Their
sound is a soft wow wow wow ...........

Males are different from the females, as can be seen in this photograph taken of a couple at the Walsrode zoo in Germany.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
