Photo made in Coronie, Suriname maart 2001 of a young bird by
Jan Hein Ribot. Below two pictures made by Carl Beel in Peperpot
plantation close to Parmaribo in October 2009 and one made by
Foek Chin Joe in February 2007 at the Stowelweg, Suriname. Then
an adult by Alexandre Renaudier, seen in Venezuela August 2007
and an adult seen by Dominiek Plouvier in Peperpot plantation
near Paramaribo in 2009.
The young tiger-heron above stayed motionless when it felt
observed or in danger. Even when I neared it at only one meter
distance it pretended to be unvisible. Between plants that would
have been nearer to the truth. The name Tiger-heron clearly comes
from the stripes on the young birds.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
