The first photo has been made by Louis des Tombe, the second one by Foek Chin Joe, the third by Carla Out eatings its favorable fruit (Cecropia). The one just below the text was seen by Pieter Verheij in January 2007 and then two by Leo Olmtak in his garden in Paramaribo, all photos made in Suriname. These tanagers are indeed seen often more near palms than their cousins, the blue-grey tanagers. They search there for nesting material or they search along the palm leaves for insects. Their claws seem to be better fit for this (they are sharper) than those of their cousin the blue-grey tanager. Together with the blue-grey tanager you can find them in gardens eating fruit, like ripe papayas or bananas. In the first photo you can see it has shiny blue-grey legs. Male and female look alike.
