Photo above was made by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane, below is a white-winged swallow in the Suriname river near Paramaribo (Ribot) and at the same spot one by Stephan Ferrier. This bird is very common along the big rivers and is always found near water. It has shiny dark blue-green feathers on the upper parts and the white in its wings makes it easily recognisable while it flies low over the water.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest. Biggest group,1000, reported by Ton Plug, Bigi Pan, Oct 2000.
