Photo by J.H. Ribot, Walsrode 1998. This Saffron Finch was still rather common in Guyana a hundred years ago, but now it is scarce is all three Guyanas. In Suriname I know of only three catches in the last hundred year. So here is only a picture of a bird in a park. In a large part of South America they can still be found in large flocks.
Each small square indicates the observation of at least one of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest. Only two males are known from near Paramaribo in litterature (Hellmayer).
