King vultureBirds in Suriname

Photo by J.H. Ribot, Walsrode 1998. And a beautiful bird soaring above the Brownsberg, was photographed by Steven Wytema in March 2005 and then one made by Tony Henneberg in Suriname.
This vulture is rather common in the interior, but is seldomly seen along the coast. They usually soar high above the trees, but with a bit of luck they can be found eating from a carcass inside the forest. Dead animals are sometimes first found by other vultures, but when a king vulture arrives it is the strongest of them all and it can chase black or turkey vultures from a carcass.
