Photo of a Grayish saltator made by Candy MacManiman near the coast in Suriname in 2005. The second one was also near the coast (Weg naar Zee, Dec 2005) by Wouter Plouvier. A very young bird was photographed by Leo Olmtak, in his garden in Paramaribo on October 8, 2008. Some days later the young bird looks already like it has grown (fourth picture) and the last picture shows the bird on October 18, getting more grey every day. Young birds are not yet grey and have a yellow stripe above the eye and a yellow throat. The sound of the bird is available. It lives in more open country and is mainly found in the coastal area, also in gardens. In the interior these saltators are rare, but that is where their cousins are found (Buff-throated Saltator).

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
