Photo of a Pale-bellied mourner, the first one made by Alexandre Renaudier at Phedra (may 09), the second one made by Foek Chin Joe near Matta in Suriname. This bird is only known from some twenty observations in the savanna bushes (cerradão) in the vicinity of Zanderij airport (and once from Albina in the east). It shares the preference for this habitat with for instance Rufous-crowned Elaenia , Saffron-crested Tyrant-manakin and Black manakin. It is a bird that moves rather slowly and is difficult to see or hear. It eats insects and berries. This is a sound of a Pale-bellied Mourner, recorded by Otte Ottema at Phedra in Suriname.
Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
