Green oropendola, Cacique vert, Japu-verde, Conoto verde

The first picture was made in Suriname by Foek Chin Joe. the second one by by Pascal Dubois in a zoo in France (Côté Nature). In this last picture its yellow-green bill with reddish end is pointing towards the viewer and so it is less conspicious than it normally is. Green oropendolas nest in colonies like its nearest family member in Suriname, the crested oropendola, with the same kind of hanging pouches . It is more a bird of savanna and forest while its cousin is also often seen in the coastal region and near houses.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
