White-fronted manakin

White-fronted manakin Manakin ŕ front blanc, Uirapuru-estrela, Saltarín frentiblanco

Photo by J.H. Ribot, Brownsberg Suriname 1980 (the bird was just released after capture and needed some time to regain itself, normally it should look better). Better pictures were made by John S. Dunning in Amazonas, Brazil in 1973. Down below are first the female than the male. Foek Chin-Joe made a recording of this bird on the Brownsberg were it is quite common.

White-fronted Manakin, male, Manakin ŕ front blanc, Uirapuru-estrela, Saltarín frentiblanco

Observations of this manakin, almost all in the eastern part of Suriname, with many observations in the Brownsberg nature reserve. The map of south America with the distribution of this species seems to indicate the same (from Ridgely and Tudor). In Guyana a close relative is living: the orange-bellied manakin or tepui manakin, Pipra suavissima.
