These parrots (length 28 cm) are green with of course a blue head, but also with some conspicious red under their tails. They are very common in Suriname, but less so near the coast. They fly around in small groups of two to six birds, more seldom so in flocks of tens of birds. They feed on ripe fruit and on seads, nuts and flowers. Like the amazone parrots they make a lot of noise, but keep quiet during feeding. Some years you see a lot of them around Paramarib, especially in the months july, august and september (10 observations of groups in and around Paramaribo were all between june and november).
