The photos above the text were made by Erik Toorman, the first in July 2007 on the grounds of the Adek university in Paramaribo and the second one in 2009. The photos below of a nest of the Lesser Kiskadee just above the water of the Coropina kreek were made by Foek Chin Joe in April 2009. The Lesser Kiskadee prefers wet places, especially marshes in the coastal area. It has a smaller, longer bill than the more common Great Kiskadee and a different call. In the recording from Otte Ottema, made in a swamp near Palumeu in Suriname, you hear the "kiskadee" sound of the Great kiskadee ánd a call from the lesser kiskadee.

The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest. Uncommon to common in wet places in the coastal area (blue), rare in savanna (yellow) or in the rainforest (red).
