Glossy-backed BecardBirds in Suriname

Two photographs of a Glossy-backed becard made by Dennis Binda in Suriname in 2008. This becard likes tree tops as a look out, as in this photo. The sound of a Glossy-backed Becard was taped by Otte Ottema at Pakuli (Coesewijne savanna) in August 2008. Although the bird has 'surinamus' as the second (scientific) name it is not often seen in Suriname, mostly in the savanna region. In South America it has a rather restricted range, mainly Suriname and French Guyana and the region of Brazil directly to the south of them.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
