White-winged becardBirds in Suriname

White-winged becard, Suriname, male

Photo of a male White-winged Becard, made by Foek Chin Joe in the North of Paramaribo (tourtonne) in May 2005. This is quite a common bird in the coastal region, in mangroves, plantations and gardens. It seems to like to build its nest near a wasp nest, according to François Haverschmidt. Its sound was recorded in Paramaribo by Ottema. The female below was photographed by Michel Giraud-Audine in French Guiana in July 2009
