Long-winged antwren

long-winged antwren, female suriname

long-winged antwren, male suriname

Above a photo of a female long-winged antwren, made by Brian O'Shea in the Ralleigh Falls nature reserve in December 2002 and below the female a photo of a male long-winged antwren, made by Candy McManiman at Mazaroni road in the Brownsberg in 2005. Both male and female are easily confused with other antbirds and there are a lot of them around in the interior of Suriname: In total about 45 of this family. A sound of the long-winged antwren was recorded by Ottema at the Tafelberg in 2005 and should help identification.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds in Surinam, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
