Photo of a white-tipped dove, photographed by Erik Toorman in July 2006 on the campus of the A. de Kom Unversity in Suriname. Below a White-tipped dove photographed by Jan Hein Ribot on Aruba in May 2008. It is a rather common bird everywhere in wasteland and bushes in Suriname. It is mostly seen on the ground, walking and nodding its head and pecking. It has a cousin the gray-fronted dove, more a bird of the forest, that has blue on its head and a red ring around the eye instead of the blue ring of this dove.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
