Double-toothed kite

Double-thooted kite

The first photo of a double-thooted kite was made by Ronald Teulings in Suriname, the second one by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane (Côté Nature). It is a uncommon bird in Surinamewith a long tail and rufous chest with barring. The eyes are yellow in the Guianans, unlike the ones in Venezuela (cf Hilty). It is found mainly inside the forest and Hilty says that it sometimes follows groups of monkeys to catch the small animals (lizards, large insects) they disturb.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
