American kestrelBirds in Suriname

American kestrel from Suriname Crécerelle américaine, Quiriquiri, Halcón primito

Photo by J.H. Ribot, at mr. Roberts place, Paramaribo, Suriname 1984 (captured by indians on the Sipaliwini savanna). The bird was first officially reported by Brian O'Shea from a trip to the Sipaliwini in May 2003. Below are some pictures of American Kestrels on Aruba, where they are common. The first one is made by Greg Peterson, then follow two pictures made by Jan Hein Ribot (May 2008), birds on a building and on a cactus. They are often found on a high perch looking around for insects. They breed in Venezuela and are rather common on savannas in Guyana, so they might breed in Suriname.
