The uppermost photo was made by Ronald Teulings in Suriname, the second one was also made in Suriname by J.S. Dunning. Most birds have much more yellow on their belly then the second bird, just as the name indicates. This elaenia can erect its crest, like in the picture below made by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane (his site: Côté Nature ). The bird on the nest was seen by Foek Chin Joe near the airfield in Nieuw Nickerie in January 2007. It is a very common bird in open and less open terrain, but it avoids the dense woods in the interior. It eats berries and insects. This is a sound of the Yellow-bellied Elaenia, recorded at dawn by Alexandre Renaudier in Mana in French Guiana, near the border with Suriname.
