Fulvous tree-duck in Walsrode Dendrocygne fauve, Marreca-caneleira, Yaguaso colorado

Photo by J.H. Ribot, Walsrode 1998. This Tree-duck or Whistling duck is rare in Suriname, only now and then small flocks are reported, especially in March and April in total only about 40 reports in sixty years). It prefers to swim in open water and finds its food there. I don't have a picture of it that is made in Suriname.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest. All observations along the coast and sometimes in flocks (maximum 14: Spaans, Motkreek, May 1976 and same number Jonkers e.a., Hamburg, July 1982).

Number of observations of (groups of) the Fulvous whistling-duck for different months in Suriname, summed for the last 60 years.
