Picture of a female Green-and-rufous Kingfisher made by Dennis BInda in Suriname in August 2008. The male below was photographed by Serano Ramcharan in the Coeswijne nature reserve in August 2009. This kingfisher can be recognised by its rufous belly. The female has a green band on her breast. The green-and-rufous kingfisher prefers small and calm streams and behaves less conspicious then its other family members (Ringed, Green, Amazon and Pygmy and since 2009 the Belted KIngfisher), is my idea. At least, it is less often observed in Suriname.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
