A large black bird often seen over damp rainforest, here photographed by Foek Chin Joe in Suriname and below near the coast by Erik Toorman (Jenny in Suriname in 2003). It is not easily identified as the lesser yellow-headed vulture (mostly along the coast and not over forest) resembles it closely. Not visible in this pictures is the pattern of grey on its wings which will give it away.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest.
