The upper photo of a Grey Hawk was made by Louis des Tombe in Batavia Suriname in October 2007. Then a nice picture by Michel Giraud Audine of a young bird in December 2009 in French Guiana. The next picture comes from Suriname and was made by Foek Chin Joe near Paramaribo and the last one was made by Dominiek Plouvier in Coronie also in Suriname. The picture below the text was made by Pascal Dubois in French Guyane (his site:Côté Nature). The Gray hawk is very common in Suriname in open country and can be recognised by the white throat and the gray stripes on its belly and no rufous on the wings, which distinguishes it from the Roadside hawk, another very common raptor in the same habitat. Also it does not have the yellow eyes of the Roadside hawk. Mostly seen when sitting on a exposed branch, ready to dive to the ground or when soaring for short distances.
