Photo by Dominiek Plouvier (above, male), then a male and a female by Pieter Verheij in January 2007 and below first a male by KD Dijkstra, then a female, photographed by Leo Olmatak in his garden in 2009 and a picture by Erik Toorman, all taken in Suriname. A real marsh bird, with a nest like that of the pied water-tyrant, a ball of fine dead grasses, low near the water in shrubs, where the bird itself also stays normally. It catches flying insects.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest. Often found in marshes.

Photo made by Ribot near the Coesewijne, the bird is looking away.
