Mealy parrot / amazone in Suriname

Mealy parrot / amazone, Suriname, Papagaio-moleiro, Lorro burrón, Amazone poudrée

The photo has been made in Suriname by Foek Chin Joe. The Mealy parrot is the largest Amazone parrot and is usually seen flying overhead in pairs, making a sound quite diferent from the other Amazones, like for instance the much more common Orange-winged parrot. The mealy parrot is rather common everywhere in Suriname, in the forest, savanna and the coastal area. It eats all kind of fruits and seeds.

Each small square indicates the observation of at least one (group) of these birds in Suriname, the medium ones at least 4 observations on different days and the largest ones 10 or more. The color of each square indicates: blue for coastal area, yellow for savanna and red for rainforest. Uncommon.
